It was a full house at our first Sit and Sew Day for 2016. January can be a particularly productive month for quilters, as we uphold our new year’s resolutions and jump into new projects, or find renewed energy to finish our UFOs (UnFinished Objects).
There was some serious quilty business going on. A quorum of quilters, if you will.
Many of our members are currently working on their Project 48 blocks, and totally winning, if we may say so.
We had a really bumper Show and Tell session.
Kristy brought a quilt with a special story. Kristy started it the day her partner left for an extended work trip, and she made a block a day for 100 days. She took a break while it was professionally basted, and then hand quilted it over December and finished the binding as her partner was travelling home. Here she is putting the very last stitch on:
And here it is in all its glory:
The quilt is her own design, and made with Liberty fabric from our wonderful sponsors Polka Dot Tea.
Catherine brought in an absolute stunner. A long term project that she completed over two years!
Alys showed her gorgeous Meadow quilt from the Lizzy House workshop.
One of our more prolific quilters, Billie, again made it look so effortless with two quilts:
Not to be outdone, Cathy M showed three quilts:
There is such amazing quilty work going on at MMQG!
Our next event is our Social Stitching Evening on Tues 9 Feb at Hawthorn Library, followed by our Sit and Sew Day on Sun 21 Feb at GJ’s Fabrics. We hope to see you there!
