October Super Saturday Sewing Retreat

Seriously, the Super Saturday Sewing Retreat was EPIC.
Eager members turned up promptly at 9am to be greeted with a gift of gorgeous fabrics by Tula Pink , Cotton & Steel, Amy Butler and Cloud 9 courtesy of our hosts at GJs Discount Fabrics:

As usual, we had an enthusiastic group of  quilters attend, some of whom had traveled from beyond the tram tracks.

A highlight for the Retreat days is always our feature presenter, and today we had an awesome presentation from modern quilter, blogger extraordinaire (and, ahem, newest MMQG member) Amy from Badskirt.
Amy told us the fascinating story of her journey from being a film and games 3D artist to becoming a textile artist, and what life’s like in a creative profession.  She talked about the importance of critically analysing our own quilts as we each develop our own style, and being able to understand and articulate what we do and don’t like.  She also impressed us with examples of her daily discipline of quilt design, taking inspiration from every day life.   And she also gave us an insight into the geeky side of quilt design and construction in her work as a technical editor.  It was a really inspiring presentation!

And our own Show and Tell was no less impressive, with some famous quilts that we got to see in person:
