MMQG Charity Quilt

MMQG Inc are proud members of the Modern Quilt Guild, and we were delighted to participate in their latest Charity Quilt Challenge!  Our quilt was a true team effort, with members contributing in a variety of ways, and the end result will be exhibited at QuiltCon in Austin, Texas in February 2015, before being returned to Melbourne to be donated to charity.

Working within a colour palette of white, light grey, chartreuse, burnt orange, sky blue, cerise and deep turquoise, members submitted modern quilt blocks, which were then to be
assembled in an alternate grid pattern.

We took advantage of full attendance at a Sit and Sew Day to ‘rally the troops’ to construct the quilt, and we were ably led by technical guru Amy, who helped to map out a plan and members made panels, which Alison later assembled.  It may look like an improv style ‘random’ approach, but reader, be assured, there were mathematical calculations involved.

With a special mention to Anna who packed it in her suitcase in Australia and interrupted her family holiday to pop into a post office in Boston to mail it!

We’re thrilled with the finished result!

We love being active members of the internationalmodern quilting community, and some of our members are lucky enough to be travelling to Austin next month to attend QuiltCon. We’ll be bursting with pride when we see our quilt exhibited!  Thank you to all our wonderful members who contributed to the 2015 MMQG Charity Challenge quilt.
