MMQG’s July Sit and Sew Day was dedicated to charity, for recipient organisations Share the Dignity and Keep Safe Quilts.
In lieu of regular ticket price for the Sit and Sew Day, members were asked to donated to Share the Dignity, to ensure that vulnerable women have the dignity of sanitary goods when needed. It’s fair to say that members cleaned out their local pharmacies, buying sanitary products for this worthy cause, and many going to the additional effort of making gorgeous toiletry bags and pouches.
Also, we made some quilts! Quilts were made for our chosen charity, Keep Safe Quilts, to go into refuges and safe houses throughout Australia.
We took a modern approach, with simple but effective quilt designs, utilising a stash of Cotton + Steel fabric, no less. We started the day with a suitcase full of treats.
Guided only by a kindly drill sergeant, members set to work. And look at the results!

And for the first time in living memory, the dual basting function was activated:
Whilst we were busy, members were however permitted to take brief ‘stop and smile’ breaks.
All in all, we have no fewer than TEN charity quilts underway! Thanks to members who kindly took quilts home to finish them.
Jackie thought it was a race, and commenced work on finishing her quilt immediately upon her return home that very day, finishing her quilt approximately 4 hours later:
And in amongst all that activity of the charity day, we still had our regular Show and Tell. Kristy showed us a quilt she worked on only while travelling:

A sincere thanks to all members who participated or contributed in any way to our charity day!
