Happy Quilty Valentine’s Day!

What better way to spend Valentines Day than with 27 of your quilty friends? That’s how we felt about our first Super Sewing Saturday for 2015.

The day was off to a top start when we saw what Sue and Georgia had put together for the MMQG/GJ’s gift to attendees – a jar containing 4 new Art Gallery fat quarters and a Frixion pen!

Then, after coffee runs, it was needles down and everyone getting stuck into their projects, breaking periodically to have some of the treats baked and brought by members. Most opted for the Hellenic Republic Saturday deal for lunch, followed shortly after by a quilting themed quiz run by Billie and Cathy M. Ssu Yuan and Anna tied for top of the sewing class, followed by Sandra in second place, Bronwyn in third and Andrea and Lyn sharing fourth prize.

We then got to see what our members had been working on during Show and Tell; some of the wonderful works included Kim’s bias tape quilt of New Zealand.

Cathy Mollica showed off her beautiful Aneela Hoey quilt

And here is the back (is there anything this woman can’t do?!)

Billie finished a strip pieced yellow star, contrasted beautifully against that eggplant

Things slowed down a bit after dinner but the troopers kept going, and everyone left feeling that they’d made the most of their day out especially Andrea Pickering who finished hand quilting this beautiful (and huge!) quilt she’s been working on at sit & sew days for many months now.

What a fantastic effort. We can’t to see the finished quilt very soon.

Thanks once again to sponsors GJ’s, Treehouse Textiles, Amitie Textiles and Polka Dot Tea for contributing to our great day, with a shout out to Billie and Cathy M for devising and running the quiz and members for joining in the fun.
