We were delighted to be invited by the organisers of the Stitches and Craft Show Melbourne to participate in the year’s Show. This was a first time outing for MMQG, and we were so excited to have the opportunity to provide nearly nearly 40 quilts as a feature exhibition to showcase our best examples of modern quilting by Guild members. Over the four days of the Show our members also did ‘white glove duty’, mingling with the visitors to the Show, receiving feedback and having some really interesting conversations with visitors about modern quilting.
Our Guild members were keen to help out and represent MMQG.
Cathy B even made her very own mini-quilt of the MMQG logo, complete with matchstick quilting!
Our exhibition attracted many visitors, turned a few heads and started many discussions about modern quilting.
Our exhibition also had a display of quilts made by Guild members for the Modern Quilt Guild’s Michael Miller Challenge, which demonstrated the diversity of modern styles achieved from the same fabrics.
Participating in the Stitches and Craft Show was an enormous (but very rewarding!) undertaking. The MMQG committee would like to thank all members who were so keen to provide their quilts for this Show and especially those members who volunteered their time to assist at the Show. We hope this is the first of many opportunities to exhibit and promote modern quilting to a wider audience.
